New Faces, New Voices – Nigeria organises a one-day in-person Northern Women Economic Empowerment Summit in Kano State on Sunday November 28, 2021. The aim of the summit is to prepare women entrepreneurs to face post Covid-19 businesses’ challenges.

The theme of the summit is “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A Panacea for Poverty Reduction and Job-Creation in Northwest Nigeria.”

Background

Globally, there are varying agitations for women empowerment in businesses.

Similar aspirations are fervently yearned for, in seeing greater representation of women in politics, a key barometer that would create a gateway to women developments in all spheres of lives.

It is believed that if women are to be granted at least 30% representation in politics, most of their aspirations would come to fruition, including economic empowerment.

In Nigeria, a number of women empowerment plans have been designed on exports, renewable energy, entrepreneurship, etc. with marginal records of implementations and actualisation.

Why NWEES 2021?

With the Northern Women Economic Empowerment Summit, New Faces, New Voices – Nigeria plans to stimulate discussions on the following:

i. Examine and offer solutions to the factors that caused economic derailment and backwardness of business women and entrepreneurs in the Northwest, Nigeria.

ii. To boost the economic potentials of women in the geo-political zone, and showcase the abundant opportunities available to the region.

iii. To explore potentials for job creation, especially for women, who are the worst hit by poverty after Covid-19.

iv. To facilitate women’s access to credits, business materials and other financial support for the revamp and development of their enterprises.

v. To postulate a prospective vision for northern Nigerian business women and entrepreneurs.

vi. To encourage rural women to develop entrepreneurial skills for enhanced business transactions

vii. To encourage women to overcome ‘non availability’ of National Identity Number (NIN) syndrome. iix. To integrate women entrepreneurs into the digital world, for robust business engagements. (The 2019 GSMA data survey, revealed only 35 per cent of women, as opposed to 50 per cent of men, used smart phones).
